BBC Weather

Comparative analysis & Data Visualisation.

I was requested to perform a comparative analysis for BBC mobile weather app to inform BBC Weather personas and point Unique Selling Points (USP). For this project, I collaborated with two UX designers and a researcher and have been the primary contact between the former and the current UX Designer.

Understand.

I researched more than 30 web and native weather applications for Android and iOS. During polishing the work, I came across Differentiating Your Design: A Visual Approach to Competitive Reviews. I then suggested visualising the extracted information to tell the story. Alongside with the researcher and the UX Designer, we defined the landscape and plotted these on each axis criterion.

Create.

I created the artboards using Adobe Illustrator, combining the BBC Weather personas to the apps and their usability rating graphs. Together with the UX Designer, we averaged our ratings on the radial diagram to maintain objectivity.

Deliver.-

I provided BBC Weather with a fresh visual approach to competitive reviews, created more than 30 comparatively analysed art-boards integrated with their personas. The process I suggested helped my team to tell a story about competitive weather apps, their usability and user engagement. It encouraged the BBC Weather team to define USP's in the field.

  • Comparative analysis of Weather native mobile and web applications

  • Collaborative usability rating

  • Data visualisation and persona integration
